FHSWIN - Installation (Continued)

FHSWIN Program Folder
During the installation of the FHSWIN software on your computer, an "FHSW2018" program folder was created in Windows folder "Program Files" or folder "Program Files (x86)" on your local C drive, and the FHSWIN program and support files were copied into it.
(Note: I will sometimes refer to the FHSW2018 folder as the "FHSWIN Program folder". Sometime in the future the "FHSW2018" appelation will formally become "FHSWIN".)
The files placed in the program folder during installation are:

FHSW2018.exe This is the program file that processes all functions of the software;

FHSFILES.FDF This file contains a list of Family File Setups that identify the names and location of the Family File datasets where family information is stored. It also identifies the location of other files used by the software. This provision for multiple "Family File Setups" allows easily switching between multiple independent Family Files on which you may be working.

FHSPRINT.PDF While FHSWIN only uses the one "Default" Windows printer, this file contains descriptions of Printer/Page SETUPs that identify the Page Size, Page Margins, Font name and size, and line-drawing symbols to be used for printing reports and charts. You would typically have at least one PORTRAIT and one LANDSCAPE setup.

FHSTABLE.TDF This file contains the "System Tables" with information such as "Report Names", "Relationship Labels", "Report Field" Names, Soundex Codes, GEDCOM tags, etc;

FHSMSGS.MDF This file contains the text of all System Messages;

FHSRPTS.RDF This file contains information about all Reports and Charts, including each report's Options, data field Labels and text of Report Headings and Footings;

FHSCONFG.CFG This file contains the prefixes for the .FDF, .TDF, .MDF, .RDF and .PDF files, the default Date Format and User Information (Name, Address, etc) for some reports.

FHSWINIT.DAT This file contains basic parameters needed for program initialization;

LINEDRAW.TTF This file can be used to install the MS Linedraw True Type font if it is not already installed as part of Windows. (This font is able to print the graphical line drawing characters for charts).

Program Updates
Updates to FHSWIN consist of sets of modified FHSWIN program and system support files downloaded from the FHSWIN web site. The updated files are copied into the FHSWIN program folder to implement the changes. There is also a help folder, FHSWIN-Help, that can be downloaded and copied into the FHSWIN program folder to provide offline access to some helpful information.
